13th Street 2009 Gamay
We have here one of the two best Gamay houses in Ontario … I really hope more hop on the Gamay bandwagon the way 13th Street (and Malivoire) have. With ’09 being touted as a great Pinot Noir vintage, it stands to reason that its kissing cousin, Gamay, would also do quite well. This 13th Street version was aged 6 months in a 50/50 blend of American and French oak; has aromas of smoked-cherries, blackberries and hints of vanilla – the taste will seem one-dimensional, as it front-loads the cherry, but there’s good acidity and a finish that should ‘wow’ with cherry-raspberry and rhubarb. Price: $17.95 – Rating: ****+
