Owner / winemaker Kevin Panagapka says he’s looking for a full-time presence in the LCBO, or at least more presence on their shelves, and with this well-priced beauty I don’t think that should be a problem. Here he’s toned down the oak use (20% new) though still all French, and allowed a long time in said barrels (18 months), to really mellow the wine while only allowing 70% of it to undergo malolactic (let’s call that smoothing). The result is a Chardonnay that will thrill Chablis-lovers with its minerality, but also those who enjoy their up-front fruit like peach, apple and even some tropical notes. This one is delicate and delicious while still being “Chardonnay”. Price: $22.95 – Rating: ****+
