While Derek Barnett’s Meldville project hit its stride with Chardonnay right out of the gate – there was a slight stumble with Franc, namely it was not Mr. Barnett’s work from start to finish … the 2015 rectifies that; but while this Cabernet Franc has Barnett’s signature there’s still a bit of a way to go. Earthy, smoky, tobacco notes kick things off, laying in cassis and spice – a la white pepper – and a smoky finish … it’s a step up from the first edition but not his best – he’s still getting used to the new fruit … I say the 2016 will rock, buy this one to tide you over till then.
