Unlike the Mountainview Cabernet Franc, which is all Cab Franc with a percentage of appassimento-ed grapes; this Merlot has the addition of 12.5% of that Franc to give the usually soft and supple Merlot some extra depth and complexity. A total of 24 months in oak also helps to round this Merlot out, but it still retains some grip - the wine has a harshness upon opening but given some air and time you’ll find plenty to get excited about like black cherry, chocolate, and a firm spiciness on the finish … enjoy 2020-2025 and maybe a little bit beyond.  Price: $32.95 – Rating: ****+
