Westcott 2018 Chardonnay Estate

This wild ferment, 10 months in French Burgundy barrels (15-20% new) is quite a wine for Chardonnay fans with its mouth-filling texture and rich flavour profile. Starting with the white flowers then leading into the white fruit, spice and butterscotch/caramel richness on the mid-palate where it becomes creamy – but of course this is an Ontario wine so the acidity plays a balancing role in there as well. Plus, there’s a touch of smoke that swings in playfully, helping the wine to it’s long finish.  Price: $29.99 – Rating: ****
