Broken Stone 2011 Pinot Noir
I love visiting a new winery and checking out what they are bringing to the vast wine scene we have going on here in Ontario. Broken Stone's 2011 Pinot Noir adds something interesting to the landscape ... fresh young vines Pinot (planted in 2008); here they forgo the usual barrel aging for French oak chips, thus keeping costs down (important for a new winery) for both them and you. The nose is quite delicate with violets and cran-cherry. Palate doles out a little more with earthy, cran-cherry and some nice minerality, welcome but not expected in such a young vines wine. Then of course there's the nice acid component bringing it all together. Price: $18.00 - Rating: *** 1/2+
