Coffin Ridge 2011 Marquette
Why Marquette refuses to be a recognized grape by the VQA, but Baco is, remains a mystery ... and it is not through lack of trying, it's not that Marquette doesn't want to be recognized (it certainly does, and certainly deserves it) - there is good reason we should be putting it on the VQA map. Marquette is also a hybrid (like Baco Noir and Marechal Foch) made for cold temps, but unlike the two other varieties named, Marquette seems to be winning the war against bad hybrid wines. This 2011 version has a lovely tobacco and spice nose ... and a palate loaded with raspberry, cherry, cassis and white pepper. The finish is cigar / pipe tobacco with a nice seam of cherry.
