There are plenty in the Niagara area who will tell you Rockway Glen is a decent place to play golf … full stop. There’s been a winery on the property since 2000 but the wines have really been nothing to write home about. But now that the new winemaker David Stasiuk has taken the reins and Rockwood has dropped the ‘Glen’ from their name (which insinuated golf course), it’s time to get serious about the wines. This 171-case produced Chardonnay is a great start with aromas of butter, vanilla and clove and a palate that’s creamy in nature with butter, vanilla, spice and caramel peaches. Best Rockway wine I’ve tried in quite some time; and if this quality level keeps up something tells me I’m going to be saying that a lot. Price: 18.95 – Rating: *** ½+
