Owner Jeff Aubry admits that '09 was a difficult vintage - but then again this is Ontario, we rarely get an easy one. This wine will one day become a collector's item because it is the last Meritage to be made in this present format. In the future "Meritage" will only be made in good years and will then be tagged with the "Rare Vintage" label. This time out it's a blend of 54% Merlot, 36% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Cabernet Franc; it has an earthy, herbal, sour cherry and cran-raspberry nose. The palate follows pretty closely along those lines with really ballsy acidity with some cocoa and black olive on the finish. Price: $21.95 - Rating: *** 1/2
