By now I hope you know Coyote's Run has two types of soil on their property - and on occasion split grape varieties out to see what the difference would be if each grape from each soil type was treated the same, but separated. There is no Black Paw Merlot, so don't go looking for it - all these grapes come from the Red Paw Vineyard. This is a pretty wonderful Merlot from a very good vintage. The nose lures with a musky perfume, raspberry, black cherry and some blue fruits. The taste follows what the nose offers in the form of blackberry, blueberry and black cherry with a dry yet firm finish. It needs a few years to mellow and soften, but then you'll be drinking it for the next 7-9 years ... so buy now, enjoy later. Price: $24.95 - Rating: **** 1/2
