2027 Cellars 2008 Riesling, Falls Vineyard

Kevin Panagapka knows how to make Riesling - he's proven it two years in a row (2007 and 2008) with his Featherstone Vineyard version. This year, he decided to make a second Riesling, using fruit from the Falls Vineyard (located near Balls Falls). This one has a different flavor profile than the Featherstone one, proving that there really is a terroir aspect to Ontario’s Rieslings (just in case you were skeptical). The two Rieslings are made the same way, just the growing locations are different. This Falls Vineyard version has lemon, lime, apple and hints of banana on the nose, while the palate delivers crisp refreshment, big minerality along with green apple and lemon tartness on the finish. A very elegant and tasty effort and at only 10% alcohol, it’s one you can consume on a lazy summer afternoon without having to nurse your head back into shape for dinner. Price: $25.00 - Rating: ****½
