Karlo Estates 2008 Late Harvest Frontenac Gris
I think Karlo Estates may have found their own signature grape: Frontenac Gris. They make a stellar rosé from it and now I can also recommend an absolutely delectable dessert late harvest made from the grape. Smells are apricot, pear rhubarb and persimmon all baked up with cinnamon. The flavours explode in the mouth with cinnamon and spice, good acidity and just a nip of tannins to balance it out. The sweetness level is about a 6, but you’d never know, the wine leaves the mouth clean and refreshed yet with a lovely long finish. You’ll also note a light salmon colour to the wine; surprisingly this is achieved with no skin contact whatsoever. This is possibly one of the best dessert wines I have tried all year. Price: $19.00 / 375ml – Rating: *****
