Charles Baker 2008 Riesling, Picone Vineyard
Patty cake, patty cake Baker-man cook me up a Riesling as fast as you can … a little twist on old nursery rhyme never hurt anybody - problem is no matter how I tried to rework it it just didn't follow the process properly. First there's no cooking involved, or pressing either - this Riesling is made with 100% free run juice. While the reference to quickness is a little misleading too - this one won't see shelves until the fall of 2009. Right now, there's a nice mineral and fruit component to the nose, which follows through in the mouth, along with crisp acidity and a nice limestone and floral finish. I like the wine but am not thrilled with the price, though it falls in line with past vintages and Charles’ image of being associated with Stratus ... if you're okay with the price add an extra half star, cheers.
