Cox Creek "NV" Late Harvest Gerwurztraminer
Now here is an interesting idea: take a non-conventional style of wine (Late Harvest Gerwurztraminer), pair it with a not so traditional dinner (Mennonite Meat Pie) and see what happens. Surprisingly good things. With a honey pear nose, hints of melon and a medium short finish, you’d think dinner would be ruined pairing it with this beverage … but not so. This semi-dry (3) wine paired perfectly with the mild spices in the meat pie, in fact it went deliciously well. Bringing out the meat and potato flavour while still keeping the apple, honeydew melon and cantaloupe tastes of the wine intact – it was like having a full course meal with fruity dessert, without the actual fruit. This just proves that an unconventional match can yield some very pleasant results – don’t be afraid to experiment.
