Steve Kocsis makes great sweet wines, from botrytis affected Rieslings to Select Late Harvest Vidals and of course, we can’t forget his icewines. This 2002 version is still vibrant and lively 5 years on – and surprisingly dark in colour (I’ll attribute it’s age for the colour, if nothing else), but its age has taken nothing away from either it’s taste or smell. Put the glass up to your nose and you get raspberry compote, not sickeningly sweet smells, more along the lines of inviting and dive right in red berries. The taste does not disappoint, jammy but not thick … oh so raspberry, strawberry and black cherry without being syrupy. A perfect example of what Cabernet Franc Icewine should be, right down to that deep red colour … as for the price tag … What did you expect to pay for perfection?
