Rancourt 2004 Noble Blanc
Given the friendly atmosphere of Rancourt Winery, and the way Lionel and Lorraine (owners of the winery) make you feel like an old friend or even family when you walk in the door, I have dedicated each review of their wine to a particular friend or family member … you’ll know who you are. Is the wine made better by the company you keep or does the company you keep make you drink wine? As for what side of the line your friends and family fall on – that’s up to you. This wine is a real winner, a wine with no pretense of being more than it is – something to serve as aperitif or with a light meal. A blend of 50% Chardonnay and 50% Riesling it has a rather muted nose of citrus and dandelion. Where it really stands out is in the flavours: floral, white peach and melon (we decided on cantaloupe) with just a hint of sweetness and subtle acidity. Perfect with salads, nuts and cheese. As for the company you keep when drinking this wine – if you are drinking it with fun-loving, lust for life people like Lionel and Lorraine Rancourt, you’ll find the flavours exploding in your mouth. This is a joie-de-vivre party wine. Find those kind of people to share this wine with, and it’s destined to become the wine when friends get together.
