Daniel Lenko 2005 Signature Chardonnay
Due for release in February 2008, this 200 case, produced only in good vintages, spends eighteen months in French oak (exclusively for this line of wines). Currently, it's young and fruity with good vanilla oak characteristics; an ageing potential of 10+ years according to Daniel, mainly due to its high acidity. And how, you may ask, do they decide the "good vintages” for the making of this wine? It seems that that job is up to Blackie the dog - usually a shunner of bad fruit, Blackie eats the low hanging grapes only in the good years: 02, 05, 07 ... we should all keep our eyes peeled to see what year Blackie likes next.
