Most Rieslings have a delicious sameness about them – you have your apple, pear and petrol, maybe some floral and citrus notes, and then a wonderfully delicious sweetishness on the palate. So when something comes along that’s uniquely it’s own, you really stand up and take notice. This ’05 from the Lake Erie North Shore regions shows some difference on the nose that makes it quite unique – pink grapefruit cocktail – there’s absolutely no mistaking it … especially for a grapefruit fan like myself. You will also find a hint of lime on the nose. The palate shows much the same thing with a delicious hit of citrus zing on the end. A good seam of dry acidity backs the whole thing up making this a nice change from all those sweeties that are coming down the pike. This will make for a sensual summer sipper come patio season and should retain these qualities through the summer of ’07.
