Featherstone 2011 Sauvignon Blanc
Winemaker Dave Johnson picked up some pointers of making Sauvingon Blanc while on a trip in New Zealand. One trick is to bottle it early to capture the freshness - the drawback is that Sauvignon Blanc takes a good 3-6 months to emerge from bottle shock to really wow the nose. I tried this wine back in January and decided to retry later in the year. Now I can tell you with confidence the aromas grab and hold you with tropical notes, passion fruit and a subtle grassiness- beauty. Palate follows pretty closely with that grassy tropicality and nice acidity to keep it crisp, clean and fresh. Price: $19.95 - Rating: ****+
