Now, many of you know that Chardonnay is my blasé grape of choice - I'd poo-poo it in an instant and discount it's sameness far to often. But this version is one of those that really impressed me and shows what good Chardonnay practises can bring about. Winemaker Marco Piccoli aged it a year in oak but has kept the fruit smells and flavours so it's not stave oriented. Peach and vanilla lead it off, the follow up is apple, peach, vanilla and just a hint of butteryness - it's mouth-filling, complex and delicious. Price: $19.95 - Rating: ****
