Riverview 2010 Riesling
Year after year Riverview delivers a wine that truly exceeds my expectations, not because I have no faith in this little winery, but because they have yet to make their mark with one particular variety (and that might be a good thing). Last year it was their Gewurztraminer - which went on to win a few awards for them (most notably best G-wine at Cuvee 2011). This year I'm predicting big things for this criminally under-priced Riesling. This intense wine delivers on so many levels: green apple leads to peach with apple returning on the finish - the well-maintained acidity balances a delicate sweetness, while lemon flavours rush back on the recurring lengthy finish. Look for the new labelling with a peach-on-the-front, which foreshadows what's in the bottle plus a whole lot more. This wine'll have you wanting more all at a price that makes it easy to afford more, and there's a very over-indulgence forgiving 10.5% alcohol - so drink up. Price: $16.95 - Rating: ****+
