Sandbanks 2009 Baco 10th Anniversary
Baco, the great enigma of Ontario, has both a big following and a big loathing in the province that seeks to call it its own. These camps include producers, consumers and writers, but up until a few years ago there has been only one true Baco producer that has consistently made Baco worthy of talking about (and their name rhymes with Henry of Pelham) ... but then, some 10 years ago, another producer 305km away also started making Baco ... very well I might add, and they have turned into a rival of Pelham's for the palate of Baco fans. This is a celebratory wine, the 10th vintage for the winery and a blend of 75% Baco Noir and 25% Merlot - here we have black cherry, licorice and a slight tarry note which makes for a good BBQ season wine - there's also a touch of a red Zinfandel note here which seals the deal. Price: $19.05 - Rating: *** 1/2+
