Southbrook 2006-Tasted Framboise D’or
Southbrook has long been known for their fruit wines, especially their flagship Framboise, which has won medals all over the world. It’s a delicious fruit wine that also makes for a great topping on ice cream, in vinegrettes, and is incredibly versatile to cook with. But the golden raspberry version, called Framboise D’or, to borrow a phrase – “kicks it up a notch”. Made in small batches, due to the limited availability of the fruit, and originally fortified with brandy, instead of neutral alcohol spirits. This spectacular wine, along with its raspberry tones, has nuances of candied orange, peaches, apricots and of course sweet luscious raspberry. Smooth and lively on the tongue, with everything mentioned above and a whole lot more. It’s like nothing you’ve ever tasted. A heavy hitter at 14.5% alcohol, this wine is made for sipping after dinner (on it’s own) and the finish lingers long after the last swallow.
