13th Street 2010 Gamay Noir
The '09 Gamays were spectacular, and why not, this kissing-cousin of Pinot Noir saw its cousin rise to the spotlight in that finicky vintage. On the other hand, '10 was hotter and more Bordeaux variety-oriented, so I wouldn't hold ouot for typical Pinot or Gamay wines. This one delivers a perfumed-cherry note on the nose with flavours that dig into the berry bowl of flavour: cherry, raspberry, strawberry with a slightly earthy note to keep it grounded - there's even a hint of spice from the minimalist feature of 6 months in seasoned (read: older) oak barrels. Price: $19.95 - Rating: *** 1/2+
