This is the first red in the Sand & Gravel line and it's a blend of 60% Merlot, 29% Cabernet Franc and 11% Cabernet Sauvignon (or there abouts) of which only 10% of the fruit for the wine comes from estate grown fruit - this helps to give the wine its backbone. The nose is black raspberry and black currant along with a smokiness and some slight vanilla notes, then along comes spiced-blueberry for added depth. The taste is easy on tannins with some lovely mineral / raspberry notes on the back palate along with a gentle spice and tasty long finish. Consume now or over the next 1-3 years.
