Malivoire 2010 Gewurztraminer
There seems to be a fair bit of good Gewurzt coming out of Ontario lately and here's another in a long line of good G-wines I have tried, this one does not seem as typical as many I have tasted and that's what makes it so intriguing. The nose is really floral but pleasantly so - having an I-want-to-sniff-all-day-edness to it. There's also a whiff of spiced apple amongst the flowers. This intrigue continues on the nose with a sweetness driven palate that seems to break off from the norm, delivering spiced baked apple with cinnamon stick and brown sugar to the tongue. There's a gentle acidity that keeps it from being cloying, but there is sweetness to this wine right through to the finish. Unlike any Gewurzt I have tried from Ontario. Malivoire has found a unique niche wine in this vintage. Price: $24.95 - Rating: *** 1/2+
