Fielding 2007 Chosen Few Red
Another beauty from Fielding in there '07 line-up. It's a mainly Cab-Merlot blend (45 and 41 respectively), but what stops this from being a Meritage is the 14% of Syrah that goes into the blend. Heavy on new oak at 53% and 73% French. The first thing I found really striking about the wine was the elegant black packaging. But as we have all surely learned packaging is only part of the game - it's what's in the bottle that'll keep us coming back for more. And more is a good idea here. A port like nose rich in black cherry, plum, chocolate and vanilla with some smoked meat nuances leading to a palate rich in raspberry, cherry, chocolate, plum, vanilla and spice; tannins on this one are firm yet approachable. This one drinks well now but can;t be hurt by another 5+ years in the cellar. Price: $74.95 - Rating: **** 1/2
