D’Angelo 2002 Pinot Noir
Sal D’Angelo is fuming – and why shouldn’t he be … he waited 6 years to submit this wine to the Cuvee panel. 6 years he toiled to make a wine he felt would surely win an award. He took the grapes from a spectacular vintage, aged them in French oak for 18 months, then waited another 3 years for bottle ageing so that everything would integrate properly. And what happened you may ask? They dropped the best Pinot Noir award at the 2008 Cuvee Awards. Sal D’Angelo is fuming. The good news is you’re now the beneficiary of Sal’s painstaking efforts. He has crafted a beautiful Pinot with a sour cherry, earthy and cinnamon oak nose – while in the mouth there’s a satin-like smoothness and charm to this wine – fine tannins, sour cherries, vanilla and herbs. Beautiful and ageworthy … all that can be said to Sal now is sorry and thanks.
