Pelee Island 2009 Alvar Pinot Noir
This is probably as close to California-style Pinot Noir as you're likely to get out of Ontario. As many know the two schools of Pinot are Burgundy, France and California, USA ... one is earthy and terroir driven, the other is juicy and fruity with a basic touch of the earthiness (if any). Here's a Pinot that 's loaded with pure black cherry on the nose; the palate continues the lovely black cherry notes with juicy fruit and minute traces of earthiness. There is also a touch of tannins as part of the finish, but nothing so drying as to keep you from wanting to take a 2nd, 3rd, 4th or more gulpfuls till the bottle is gone.
