During the icewine festival J-T dipped into their cellar to give guests a sample of history … their 1995 Vidal Icewine – now 13 years old. I have heard it said that Vidal Icewine wine has a 10-year shelf life, well J-T just raised the bar on that. The colour was deep amber – I’ve seen Oloroso sherries with less colour … the nose had coffee, caramel and toffee aromas which followed through on the flavours while adding mocha and some over-ripe tropical fruits. Curious of all was the interesting cherry note on the finish – now where did that come from? Delightful and eye-opening.
