You rarely see a “White Meritage” – that’s because according to the rules of the moniker you can use only 2 grapes in the blend: Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon; where as in a red Meritage blend you have 5 grapes to chose from (Cab Sauv, Cab Franc, Merlot, Malbec and Petit Verdot). So now that we have that settled Jackson-Triggs used 87% Sauvignon Blanc and 13% Semillon to make this beauty – and subsequently won a 2008 Cuvee award for their troubles (Best Sauvignon Blanc). The nose is grassy, citrus: grapefruit, and orange peel … while the tastes follow a more tropical and citrus line – namely melons and lemons with a bit of grapefruit cocktail thrown in for good measure. There’s also a steady stream of acidity to keep this one fresh and lively.
