Somebody stop me from heaping more praise onto Jackson-Triggs … their Okanagan branch continues to reap awards and praise – going as far as winning their 3rd (in the last 4 years) Winery of the Year award at the recent Canadian Wine Awards. However, let me point out that the Ontario arm of this winery is also putting out some pretty amazing stuff. Although 2004 was not a particularly outstanding year in Ontario, the winemakers at J.T. seem to be getting the most out of the grapes they got. This blend of 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 45 % Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc was aged in French and American oak for 14 months and developed lots of complexity in both flavour and smell in the process. Let’s start by sticking our nose in the glass to find cassis, blackberry, black cherry, plum, cinnamon, vanilla and oak. Not surprisingly, the taste follows through with a full, rich mouth feel and silky tannins, along with some good oak integration that you’ll find in the back palate. Enjoyable now or in a few years, this wine is another fine example of how J.T. continues to make great wine in both B.C and Ontario.
