The 2005 Rieslings are proving themselves to be very good, but they still require some time in bottle to tone down the tastes and mellow out the acids. I find most producers are being forced to release them earlier than they want to because of the high demand for Riesling this time of year – and last year’s vintage is mostly, if not all, sold out. 13th Street has made another doozy – with an inviting sweet pear and citrus nose. This wine is playful in the mouth with a little fizz. There’s some apple-y goodness along with a medium long finish – in short, it’s like fizzy apple juice with a splash of citrus on the finish, quite pleasant and refreshing. Great with salmon.
