Fielding 2005 Reserve Riesling
This is the big gun – a Riesling that’ll knock your socks off, made from the 27 year old vines of the much-hyped Rosomel Vineyard. It’s literally been 10 minutes since my last sip and I still have the flavours in my mouth – so there’s a long lingering finish that hangs out long after your done. A great nose of apples, apricots with a delicate floral bouquet – you can also pick up hints of sweet citrus. On the taste there’s a lot going on. Imagine biting into a fresh royal gala apple – sweet and tart at the same time - with just a slight dusting of cinnamon-sugar and nutmeg. If you hold the wine in your mouth you’ll get more of that fresh, tart apple bite - quick swallowers will get less of that intensity, it’s your choice. That brings us to the previously mentioned finish: baked apple with cinnamon that lingers on and on and on, and soft luscious flavours. This is a fantastic wine, and its low alcohol begs you to have another glass – give in. Bottled just days before the tasting, this one will only get better as it settles into its bottle.
