Flat Rock Cellars 2008 Nadja’s Vineyard Riesling
I always liked the Bill Cosby routine where he talked about fathers and the lack of respect they get. A father will spend hours in the backyard teaching his son how to play football, throwing pass after pass, teaching him the fundamentals – and when the boy finally gets to the pros, catches that big catch, winning the big game, he turns to the camera and says “Hi mom.” Well Ed Madronich (owner of Flat Rock) has done the same kinda thing here. Dad helped him to establish this winery and one of his first really iconic wines he named after his mom. This Nadja’s Riesling is a good tribute to mothers everywhere year after year. This 2008 edition has lots of green apple, lemon, citrus and plenty of minerality to lead the way with a nice dry finish. Price: $19.95 – Rating: ****
