Flat Rock Cellars 2008 Rusty Shed Chardonnay
The Rusty Shed Chardonnay is one part great story, one part laziness and two parts great wine. Year-in and year-out this Flat Rock Rusty Shed line continues to impress me … because it’s consistently a good performer. The wine gets its name from the Rusty Shed owner Ed Madronich was suppose to paint – but instead he turned it into a popular wine name, thus avoiding having to paint that old rusty shed in the middle of his vineyard. Maybe it leaches something into the soil to help the grapes, whatever it does it makes tasty Chardonnay. 10 months in barrel has brought about a tropical fruit, apple cider and peach pit nose and flavours that are fruity but not overpoweringly so. Good flavour that’s ultimately sippable with good acidity on the finish; it’s also great value. Price: $24.95 – Rating: ****½
