Here’s another good value from Calamus. Pinot Gris is usually a dry fruit driven white wine, but lately the trend has been to make it slightly sweet (1) thus giving us flavours that lean more towards Riesling; this is one of those Gris’. It has a nose of apples and peaches with the faintest hint of citrus. The mouth is a different story – there’s a sweet beginning to this wine and a tart finish – all the while, a creamy peach-like taste lingers in the mouth. Golden in colour, this sweet sipper is wonderful for a lazy afternoon – and the medium finish makes the bottle seem to last longer. Another good wine from this upstart winery.
