Fielding 2006 Rose Dry
“Get back here,” I overheard Heidi Fielding say to some people trying to sneak by her table at this year’s Insider Tasting, “It’s not your typical rose.” She assured them. And with that, sheepish patrons turned around and thrust their glass out for their obligatory pouring … but when all was said and done, there were plenty of nods and smiles, because she was right, this ain’t your typical rose. This one’s blended from four grape varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Syrah and Merlot, of which Pinot is the highest percentage and Syrah the lowest. The nose screams typical rose: raspberries and strawberries, your brain immediately screams back “sweet” … but hold on Jack there’s more inside the bottle than greets the nose, citrus tang, dry mouthwatering grapefruit characteristics and it’s dry … pleasant and dry. Chilled, it’s a perfect companion out on the patio this summer, or as Fielding would prefer, out on the dock … and best of all, no corkscrew needed – this one’s a screwcap!
