From the Grand Cru vintage in Ay comes this still red (Pinot Noir) from Bollinger – who knew? It’s produced from a single 4-hectare plot and aged 8 months in barrels ranging in age from 3-10 years – hence keeping the fruit flavour intact and made from only free-run juice. Results: black cherry and red currant backed by licorice, earthy notes and a little white pepper. For those interested, this wine is only made in the “best” vintages. Price: $115.00 – Rating: *** ½+
