Giordano 2017 Appassimento Rosso

The 96 on the throat of this bottle is another ridiculous score by an over-reaching wine writer trying to get his name on as many bottles as possible – but that is no reason to discount this wine as over-hyped; it is a lovely bottle especially for those who really dig on Zinfandel and/or wines from the Veneto region, because it brings both styles together. The dried grapes (appassimento) and the Primitivo (Italian Zin) combo is sure to please many around the table. There’s a dash of mocha sweetness that is achieved right from the get go, followed by plum, black cherry and pleasant sweet spices … it’s easy drinking and at 15% a dangerous wine for a headache the next morning – so watch out.  (****)
