Masi 2015 Campofiorin

Five star vintages don't come around all that often - and Masi has even more rigorous standards than most.  But when you see that 5-stars above the vintage date you know you are in for something special - and this 2015 delivers.  First we have the usual suspects of grapes: Corvina, Rhondinella and Malinara that make up the blend of this Ripasso. Campofiorin is the original Ripasso created over 50 years ago in 1964 and old bottles of this wine truly stand the test of time (I recently had a 2006 5-star that was still fresh and vibrant of fruit). Here lots of plum, dark cherry, spice and even notes of chocolate kick things off - tannins at this time are intense but will mellow with time, and this wine has time on its side, give it 10+ years in the cellar, but I suggest opening one up every so often to see how thing are going.  (****+)
