2103 was a tough vintage (though not as tough as 2014) and the wines show it. Soft and herbal with anise and spice notes reigning supreme. Fruit is hidden by oak and smoke and may never fully rise to its hoped potential – it has some cherry-stone and balsamic mingling in there as well – it’s slightly disappointing based on the iconic nature of this brand … Drink now and over the next 3-5 years.  Rating: ***+
