From an area known for its tomatoes, San Marzano, comes this Primitivo grown at 100 meters above sea level; macerated for 10 days to enrich the colour, then aged 6 months in both American and French oak to aid it develop those rich generous flavours (American oak) and its finesse (French oak): hints of chocolate, great spice, plum, black cherry and pepper. It’s a pleasing wine that delivers on the promise of the fruitiness of the nose and the juiciness of Zinfandel (aka: Primitivo). Rating: ****+
