This 100% Tempranillo, with vine ages ranging from 6 to 25 years, is what I call a new style Rioja, aged in a mix of new and older oak (50/50 split) for only 3 months and has achieved alluring aromas and flavours: spiced red cherries, vanilla-cinnamon notes, blackberry and a stony-mineral core, plus there are some delicate spices of white pepper on a meaty finish … well priced and drinks well with or without food – and at this time of year that’s a real plus.  Rating: ****
