Fruit for this Pinot comes from a single vineyard in Niagara-on-the-Lake (Martin Wagner) and might be one of Derek Barnett’s best under his own label. Aromas of earthy, black cherry and smoke follow onto the palate where spiced-cherry and hints of cranberry are added into the mix. What makes this “Barrel Select” is that is encompasses Derek’s two favourite barrels (so only 50 cases were made) – and spent 20 months in said barrels (all French). It’s soft and easy to drink with a good spicy core and long finish.  Price: $38.00 – Rating: ****+
