Now hold the phone, here’s another really good Syrah from Niagara and it comes with a twist. Lincoln Lakeshore fruit aged 9 months in 30% new oak with about 25% of all oak being American: 1/3 is wild fermented, 1/3 is a Rhone Valley yeast and 1/3 an Aussie yeast – wow, did this experiment work? I’d say it did.. Black pepper aromas along with blackberry and floral (aka: violets) … this is head winemaker Gavin’s first kick at Syrah and he has totally nailed it with a great mouthfeel that’s very gentle but very present: spices galore, cassis and even a smoked bacon note on the finish. Plenty of finesse to go around, but sadly only 150 cases, so not much of this wine to go around. Price: $24.95 – Rating: **** ½
