Penner-Ash 2016 Pinot Noir, Willamette Valley

An impressive Pinot made by one impressive lady. Lynn Penner-Ash started this winery in 1998 as she was working as the winemaker for Rex Hill in Oregon, turns out she was the first female winemaker hired in Oregon. Before that she worked for the likes of Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars, Domaine Chandon and Chateau St. Jean. Here bona fides are impressive and so is this wine coming to Vintages at the end of the month. Aged in four different ages of oak from new to neutral for 10 months. Deep cherry fruit leads things off, adding licorice, raspberry, strawberry, smoke and peppery notes along the way. Very plush mouthfeel and a lovely long finish.  Rating: ****+
