iCellars 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon

Years ago I was speaking with Jeff Aubry – formerly of Coyote’s Run, about his soon-to-be neighbor, iCellars … he said: “Adnan has a great site and will do amazing things” – damn was he right. This Cabernet was picked November 27 (latest picking ever at iCellars) and at 25.9 brix achieving 14.5% natural alcohol levels, wow. Aged 12 months in 1/3 new oak, of which 90% was French and 10% American … Once again iCellars has a beauty of a Cab on their hands with cassis, blackberry, vanilla, mocha just for starters, then adding in spice, oak, raspberry, herbal and bittersweet chocolate. The wine was coarse filtered to keep all that goodness in – the tannins grip and yet there’s such a lovely long finish here. Sure it needs some time to mellow, but this wine has a good decade ahead of it – we also have the excitement of expecting a Reserve Cab from the same year on the horizon.  Price: $50.00 – Rating: **** ½
