For our December Thumbs Up podcast on Two Guys Talking Wine I tried this Louis M. Martini for probably the third or fourth time over my years of tasting wines – there are two from this producer on LCBO shelves, one is a Sonoma County, which I find very hit and miss (mostly miss) but the Napa Valley version wins me over every time, there is good consistency here vintage to vintage. This year there is lots of juicy red fruit up front, plus the addition of black currant and black cherry … there’s even a hint of vanilla on the mid-palate, while it finishes with plenty of blackberry. It’s a laser focused Cabernet from Napa which continues to please and it’s great for those special occasions when only Napa will do – and you won’t break the bank to do it. Rating: ****
