2018 is one of those vintages that will go down as mainly forgettable, as it was hot, low yield and ended wet – not the kind of vintage you want … early ripeners like Pinot Noir and Chardonnay faired pretty decently. The Grand Clos, now back for its second year, after hiatus, was age 22 months and it shows lots of fruit, but does start quite barrel-esque: spiced–peach, caramel, smoke and vanilla cream turns pineapple and tropical after an hour in the glass ... A delicious wine to watch open (or age a few more years). Price: $44.95 – Rating: ****+
